PAS legislators will continue to serve in the Selangor government despite cutting ties with PKR, Selangor commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi said today.

Sallehen said Selangor Mentri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali had also asked for PAS to work together to strengthen the state government.

“We did not discuss about it (PAS cutting political ties with PKR). The decision, however, refers to discussions for the 14th general election.

“But in the context of the state government, we are still working together as this is the people’s mandate,” he said after meeting Azmin at the menteri besar’s office this morning.

Sallehen, along with two PAS excos Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi and Zaidi Abdul Talib, were seen leaving Azmin’s office at 10.15am.

PAS formally ended cooperation with PKR yesterday, with the Islamist party’s powerful Shura Council deciding this was necessary to defend their Islamic agenda.

The Syura Council said the reasons they want to end political ties with PKR were because the latter had made false statements against PAS leaders, collaborated with their enemies to bring down the state government in Kelantan and did not support the RUU355 motion.

Syura Council secretary Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh said PKR had also created three-cornered fights during the by-elections in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar.

Late last night, PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the party had always sought to maintain the political relationship between PAS and PKR through various efforts.

“PKR acknowledge PAS Syura Council’s decision to end political cooperation, even though various efforts were made to maintain such ties in order to fulfil the people’s aspirations,” Wan Azizah said in a statement.

Her statement came hours after the decision to end ties with PKR was announced.

On the three-cornered fights in the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections, Wan Azizah said PKR’s objectives then were only to oppose Umno and BN. – May 12, 2017.
