YAYASAN Wilayah Persekutuan’s threat to sue Public Accounts Committee chairman Wong Kah Woh is “uncalled for”, said the select committee.

“Any threats to the PAC or its members, in relation to issues under investigation or reports tabled, is a clear attempt to interfere with the powers of Parliament,” said Wong in a statement today.

Yesterday, YWP chief legal officer Mohd Fadzil Ab Hamid said the foundation was considering taking legal action against Wong over a PAC statement about its probe into 97 land deals by Kuala Lumpur City Hall since 2011.

PAC said City Hall had given more than 200 development orders before the KL City Plan 2020 was approved by the Federal Territories minister.

The select committee suggested YWP be turned into a statutory body so that it could be audited by the National Audit Board.

The probe into its land sales began in April 2019 and was completed in November the same year.

The PAC said there was also a conflict of interest in the management of YWP as the FT minister and KL mayor both held positions in the organisation.

Earlier today, FT Minister Annuar Musa said YWP would remain a non-profit outfit as long as it doesn’t breach any laws or guidelines.

“It (YWP) is not a government agency. It is not owned by the government and it doesn’t receive funding from the government.

“So, the government can’t go overboard and take a non-profit organisation and make it a statutory body,” he said. – November 19, 2020.
