YAYASAN Wilayah Persekutuan (YWP) is a non-profit organisation, so it can still exist as long as it doesn’t breach any law or guideline, said Annuar Musa.

The Federal Territories minister said YWP is registered as a non-governmental organisation with the Registrar of Societies (RoS).

“It (YWP) is not a government agency. It’s not owned by the government and it doesn’t receive funding from the government.

“So, the government can’t go overboard and take an NGO and make it a statutory body,” he said at the Parliament lobby today.

Annuar was responding to Kuala Lumpur MPs who have called for the dissolution of YWP following the Public Accounts Committee’s (PAC) findings on City Hall’s land deals.

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said the foundation is tasked with the sale and rental of billboards, government land and parking lots.

“These are government assets. Why are they being managed by a registered company?

“I hope the government will disband YWP. If it wants a charitable foundation, it can form a special department for community through the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry or City Hall.”

Annuar said he also looking at the PAC report and is ready to make changes if need be.

YWP is an NGO and the Kuala Lumpur mayor is not holding any post (in the foundation), so there is no conflict of interest.

“YWP is not under the Federal Territories Ministry.”

Annuar said hundreds of thousands of city folks have received aid from the foundation.

“When school reopens, YWP will be giving aid to 25,000 schoolchildren. Even during the pandemic, the foundation assisted many city folk.”

He added that the board of directors do not receive any salary or allowance.

“They are working as volunteer trustees.” – November 19, 2020.
