ALLEGATIONS that Dr Mahathir Mohamad is obstructing Pakatan Harapan’s efforts to restore the people’s mandate is hasty and baseless, said Ulya Aqamah Husamudin.
The Pejuang information chief said the opposition should stop fighting, especially on things that are trivial and petty.
“Find the middle ground and work together to reject the government that was taken away by conspiring with kleptocrats,” Ulya said in a statement.
Earlier, PKR information chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said that Dr Mahathir must stop trying to derail Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) efforts to take back the people’s mandate.
This was after Dr Mahathir had told The Malaysian Insight that PKR president Anwar Ibrahim will not be a good prime minister for Malaysia as he may not be able to navigate the country out of a financial crisis.
Shamsul said the former prime minister appeared desperate to remain politically relevant.
Ulya Aqamah said if Dr Mahathir was that desperate to remain prime minister, he could have done so with the Perikatan Nasional government.
“However, Dr Mahathir did not agree with (Bersatu’s) betrayal and was ready to be removed from the party he built to defend the people’s mandate and keep his promises to the PH component parties.
“Even if Dr Mahathir didn’t resign, Bersatu and Mohamed Azmin Ali’s group, at that time, would still have left PH and caused the downfall of the PH-led government.”
He said it is common knowledge that the mainspring of the Sheraton move was Azmin and Muhyiddin Yassin’s betrayal.
Ulya Aqamah said when Anwar had recently announced he had a sufficient number of MPs supporting him to become prime minister, Dr Mahathir had said Pejuang MPs were not included in this.
“The fact is that PKR initially did not want to cooperate with Pejuang and, more surprisingly, it was willing to conspire with Umno, including some kleptocratic politicians.
“How can (PKR) blame Dr Mahathir and Pejuang when Anwar himself did not discuss the issue of (getting Pejuang’s) support?”
He added that Dr Mahathir’s earlier statement has nothing to do with the Sheraton move, and only refers to his experience as former prime minister.
“Let Dr Mahathir leave it to the public to evaluate his performance.” – November 14, 2020.
