PRIME Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said he will consider extending bipartisan cooperation to the opposition beyond Budget 2021.
He told Astro Awani in an interview tonight he was mulling the possibility of inviting members of the opposition to government meetings on the Covid-19 pandemic and the Economic Action Council, both of which he chairs.
“I want to be inclusive. I would like to have the opposition to be in the council that I myself chair, or maybe in my daily Covid-19 briefing.”
“This is not about giving credit to them, but I would like to hear from the opposition on their suggestions and if they can bring good ideas for the people’s benefit,” said Muhyiddin, who is Pagoh MP.
Asked whether this would extend to political cooperation, the Bersatu president said he did not want to make any predictions and that things would happen one step at a time.
Muhyiddin was earlier asked about Budget 2021, which was tabled by Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz yesterday.
Muhyiddin was also asked on opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim’s comment that the budget lacked economic stimulation.
“In these trying times, a small increase from minus to positive is already a huge stimulation.
“If we look at the budget, the incentives, the tax cuts, the aid for the people and businesses, that is already a good effort to revive the economy, especially this time around,” said Muhyiddin. – November 7, 2020.
