PRIME Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is meeting political party leaders at his office now before the cabinet meeting later today as speculation mounts that he could tender his resignation.

But Umno president, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, is absent despite being invited to the meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya.

Sources told The Malaysian Insight that Muhyiddin is considering his options after Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah rejected his request to invoke emergency powers to battle the Covid-19 pandemic.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and MIC chief S. Vigneswaran were spotted at PMO about 10am.

Reports indicated that Muhyiddin will hold a special cabinet meeting at 11am today.

This development comes following Muhyiddin’s two-hour meeting with ministers at his private residence in Kuala Lumpur last night.

Following the meeting, Muhyiddin issued a brief statement that the cabinet will discuss the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decree and will continue efforts to protect the nation from the Covid-19 pandemic.

On Friday, the prime minister led a delegation to meet the king in Pahang, seeking emergency rule to battle the Covid-19 pandemic.

That request, however, was rejected by the king, who decreed that there is no necessity at the moment for emergency rule.

Muhyiddin said the cabinet accepted the Agong’s position, adding that the focus of the government now will be to protect the people from the pandemic.

Zahid yesterday panned Muhyiddin for making the decision in seeking emergency rule without discussing and getting a consensus from other parties in the ruling coalition.

“This episode clearly teaches us that implementation of any major steps that is to be taken by the government requires a process of deliberation and consensus of all parties,” the former deputy prime minister had said.

“Therefore, it is appropriate to start a national reconciliation initiative that includes a political, economic, social and security agenda.” – October 26, 2020.

  • That would be the most sensible and honourable thing to do rather than trying to cling on to the premier office and casted out from it. Look from the bright side your picture and name would still there up on the wall as Malaysian 8th premier and you still enjoy a handsome retirement pension fee like the others before you. You had a run and taste it how it was like to be in that office and now you can have a good night sleep. Do the right thing Pak Din.

  • Muhyiddin, just resign and propose to the Agong that Tun Mahathir takes over in A Unity Govt. He is not aligned to any political block and technically has no party. All senior members of political parties have at different times served under Tun in his cabinet during his long illustrious career as PM. There is no better candidate than Tun to serve during the ceasefire and to take us out of this pandemic and economic crisis.

Tun is very unlikely to run in GE15 so he will not have an agenda to prolong his premiership.

Enough of politicking and rely on experience, discipline and stature.

    • Tun cannot be trusted. A leopard cannot changed its spots and it has been proven over and over again. The rakyat has enough of him.

  • Instead of keeping quiet and let these two, Azmin and Hamzah create havoc in the party, the Bersatu members should stand together and kick these two fellas out. Keeping dumb is no option for Bersatu now. Time for you guys to act if you want your party to survive.
