THE cabinet will discuss the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decree and will continue efforts to protect the nation from the Covid-19 pandemic, said Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
Breaking his silence since Friday when he led a delegation to meet the king in Pahang, Muhyiddin said the cabinet accepts the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s position that there was no necessity for emergency rule.
“The cabinet takes note of the statement from Istana Negara that the king was of the opinion that there was no necessity now for emergency rule in any part of the country.
“The focus of the government now will be to protect the people from the pandemic,” he said in a statement tonight.
Muhyiddin thanked the Agong for his confidence in the government led by him and accepted his advice to ensure the government’s stability is maintained.
Earlier today, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong rejected Putrajaya’s request for emergency powers to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
Comptroller of the Royal Household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said after discussing the request with the Conference of Malay Rulers, Al-Sultan Abdullah is of the view the federal government’s measures to fight the pandemic have been effective.
“His Highness has confidence in the government under the leadership of the prime minister to continue implementing policies and enforcement action to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
“Al-Sultan Abdullah is of the view there is no need at the present time to declare an emergency in the country or any other parts of Malaysia,” he said in a statement. – October 25, 2020.
