FOUR water treatment plants, closed due to odour pollution in Sg Selangor, have now reopened, said Amirudin Shari.

The Selangor menteri besar said the pollution levels had come down to zero TON (threshold odour number), which allowed for treatment to resume.

“I have been informed that readings on the pollution levels at the Rantau Panjang treatment plant and Sg Selangor Phases 1, 2 and 3 have breached 0 TON,” he tweeted.

“The plants can now resume treating water for consumer use.”

This morning, Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) said odour pollution in Sg Selangor forced the plants to shut down.

In a Facebook post, Luas said the plants were shut down from 12.30am to 2am.

“Luas and other parties are investigating and taking mitigating measures,” it said.

Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd had said the latest pollution will affect 1,292 areas in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat, disrupting supply to 1.19 million users.

Environment and Water Minister Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man had earlier today said the ministry is considering increasing the number of riverside reservoirs to provide a second water source in the case rivers get polluted.

Air Selangor had activated 91 water tankers, 24 static tanks and 21 public pipes for affected residents today. – October 19, 2020.
