DR Mahathir Mohamed and wife Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali were spotted at the cinema tonight watching Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

The Pakatan Harapan chairman caught the latest Star Wars film at TGV Cinemas in KLCC, three days after he had announced on Twitter that he wanted to go on a date with his wife, and sought opinions on what movie to see. Though Twitter users made several recommendations, it is unclear if the choice of Star Wars was influenced by the public.

Dr Mahathir had announced his date plans the same day news broke that he and his wife had returned Selangor royal awards last week.

The former prime minster said he returned the awards because he did not deserve them.

But the return of the awards comes after it was reported that Selangor’s Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah was outraged that Dr Mahathir had allegedly insulted the Bugis community during a speech in Petaling Jaya in October.

The Selangor palace confirmed the return of the awards and said they would be cancelled according to the prescribed procedures. – December 14, 2017.
