PRIME Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will undergo self-quarantine at home for 14 days after attending the same meeting as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Dr Zulkifli Mohamad al-Bakri, who is Covid-19 positive.

The prime minister in a statement said he was not a close contact of Zulkifli’s at the October 3 meeting and as such, based on the Health Ministry’s protocol, he only needed to undergo self-quarantine for 14 days starting from the date of the meeting.

His quarantine will end on October 16.

“I will also monitor my health at home daily using the home assessment tool in the MySejahtera app,” Muhyiddin said.

“Self-quarantine will not disrupt my work for the government. I will continue to work from home and hold video conferences for meetings I am required to chair,” he added.

Muhyiddin said he had also taken extra precautions by undergoing a Covid-19 swab test every two weeks since April.

“All these tests have been negative.

“The last three Covid-19 tests in the last three weeks, that is on September 22, 26 and 29, were also negative,” he said.

Muhyiddin had chaired a National Security Council meeting on October 3, where Zulkifli was present.

Based on photographs circulated on social media, the minister in charge of religious affairs was not seated near the prime minister, and also did not appear to be wearing a mask.

Zulkifli confirmed he tested positive for Covid-19 in a Facebook post this afternoon, urging those who had attended his events recently to undergo screening for the virus.

He was in Tuaran, Sabah on September 24, and had attended various events in different states in the peninsula since then. – October 5, 2020.
