HEALTH director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today confirmed that several politicians who were recently in Sabah for the state elections have tested positive for Covid-19.

“We do have a few politicians who have been diagnosed as positive and, as for those who had close contact with the positive cases, we have had to quarantine them for 14 days,” he told his weekly presser today.

Noor Hisham, however, withheld the identities of the politicians who have tested positive, citing the ministry’s policy of keeping the identity of patients confidential.

“It is not right for me to highlight any names because that is against the (policy on) confidentiality of the patient, but certainly, a few politicians have tested positive.”

Noor Hisham said the ministry will continue monitoring the situation over the next crucial two weeks, also the incubation period virus.

Umno Supreme Council member Mohd Razlan Rafii and the party’s information chief, Shahril Hamdan, are among those who tested positive for the coronavirus.

Sufian Abdul Karim of Barisan Nasional, who ran for the Pitas seat, was the first Sabah election candidate to test positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, at least six ministers are currently under home quarantine, including Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin. – October 1, 2020.
