Zuraida undergoes self-quarantine

ZURAIDA Kamaruddin is under self-quarantine at home after testing negative for Covid-19, her political secretary Nor Hizwan Ahmad said today.

“Zuraida is currently under self-quarantine for 14 days as per the recommendations of the Health Ministry,” Nor Hizwan said in a statement.

Explaining the chronology of the housing and local government minister’s recent activities, Nor Hizwan said Zuraida was present at an event in Langkawi on September 27, where an attendee was tested positive for Covid-19.

She went to Langkawi in the morning and returned on the same day.

“On the morning of September 28, she attended the Malaysia Urban Forum in Kuala Lumpur and was only informed in the evening that there was one positive Covid-19 case in the programme in Langkawi held on September 27.”

He was also clarifying concerns over the minister’s health status after returning from the Sabah elections.

She returned from Sabah on September 26 and underwent a swab test at klia2 upon arrival and the immediate result was negative, he said.

A second swab test done on Tuesday, after she was told about the positive case in Langkawi, also yielded negative results.

Other ministers undergoing quarantine after returning from Sabah are Ismail Sabri Yaakob (senior), Hishammuddin Hussein (foreign affairs), Hamzah Zainuddin (home), Reezal Merican Naina Merican (youth and sports) and Ronald Kiandee (agriculture and food industries).

The weekly cabinet meeting, held every Wednesday, was also postponed yesterday due to health and safety concerns. – October 1, 2020.
