THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will not charge former Mara chairman and Umno information chief Annuar Musa over the Kelantan FA sponsorship issue, Sinar Harian reports today.
“After looking at the case, the prosecutor has decided not to charge him,” said MACC deputy commissioner Azam Baki.
“The statements and evidence collected so far are not enough to prosecute,” said Azam.
MACC was investigating Annuar over allegations that he had abused his position as Mara chairman in the sponsorship of the Kelatntan football team in January.
Following that, Annuar was suspended from his positions as Mara chairman and Mara Investments chairman.
The case was first highlighted by Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, who alleged that Annuar had forced Mara Investments and Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) to sponsor the Kelantan football team.
Annuar was also the president of the Kelantan FA until November 2016.
UniKL is wholly owned by Mara while Mara Investment is the agency’s investment arm.
Mara chairman Dr Awang Adek Husin has denied rumours that Annuar will return to Mara or any of its units.
“I have not heard any official news that Annuar will return to Mara,” he was quoted as saying. – December 13, 2017.
