THE Chinese community has seen Pakatan Harapan’s true colours and is switching to Barisan Nasional again, albeit slowly, said MCA president Wee Ka Siong.
Wee said in an interview with Mingguan Malaysia that MCA is trying to regain Chinese support but admitted that would take time.
“I take the example of Tg Piai by-election where the MCA candidate for BN won with a huge majority – 15,086 votes, in a six-cornered fight.
“In Slim, BN won 10,945 votes compared to the last election (in 2018) when it was less than 3,000 votes.
“Based on the results from the district polling centres, we saw Chinese voters give almost total support for BN,” he told the weekend edition of Utusan Malaysia.
Wee said MCA was a “victim of dirty politics” and being “milder and less extreme”, the party had been outshone by DAP.
“When DAP was in the opposition, they used hate politics and slander. I still remember DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng labelling the Lynas plant a nuclear plant.
“But when they became the government, Lynas was allowed to operate,” Wee said, referring to Australian rare earth miner Lynas’s plant in Kuantan. – September 20, 2020.
