ANWAR Ibrahim and Mohd Shafie Apdal are DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng’s choices for Pakatan Harapan’s prime ministerial candidate, FMT reported today.
Lim said said Anwar was his first choice but added that the PKR president should give way to the Warisan chief if the latter had more support.
“We support Anwar to have the numbers but if he can’t, we should give Shafie a chance and the due respect to a first East Malaysian PM,” he was quoted as saying by the news portal.
Lim stressed that MPs in the PH coalition were confident of either candidate’s ability to win support to form the government.
The Bagan MP said he and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu came up with the Anwar-or-Shafie plan in July to resolve the impasse between former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar over who would be the PH prime ministerial candidate.
Lim said the plan could only succeed with the backing of all the coalition’s MPs. And there are some MPs who disagreed with the plan, said Lim.
These MPs want the coalition to stick with the original plan to make Anwar the PM candidate, he said.
Dr Mahathir became the prime minister following PH’s victory in the last general election. It was agreed among PKR, DAP, Amanah and Bersatu that Anwar would replace Dr Mahathir after two years.
However, power transition became a subject of contention when Anwar’s supporters in PKR pressed the 95-year-old Dr Mahathir for a date. – September 19, 2020.

GPS, which has 18 seats too do not support Anwar. They haven't said whether they will support shafie or not. This is a good compromised plan except the selfish PKR is the spoiler.
