PAS minister Khairuddin Aman Razali has been warded in hospital amid an ongoing police investigation against him for flouting Covid-19 quarantine.

The plantation industries and commodities minister posted on Facebook that he is in the hospital to have a minor procedure performed.

“This is my first time being warded as a patient. Tomorrow will be a minor procedure. Hopefully, in a day or two I will be discharged,” Khairuddin posted today.

The Kuala Nerus lawmaker added the doctors told him last week to take time off for the procedure but he was busy with ministerial duties.

“Last week, after the check-up, the doctor asked me to rest for up to a week but my daily assignments did not allow it. I only managed to postpone several programmes,” Khairuddin said.

He hopes to recover by the weekend so he could attend programmes in Sabah and Sarawak.

“A long schedule awaits me in Sabah and Miri, Sarawak at the end of the month, hopefully I recover, pray for my well-being,” Khairuddin said.

Khairuddin was reported by Malaysiakini to have been ordered to take leave from last week. However, Khairuddin’s aide denied the rumour.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Hamid Bador confirmed on October 23 that Khairuddin was being investigated.

The minister was summoned to have his statement taken in Bukit Aman on October 27.

Khairuddin came under heat for not quarantining himself upon returning from Turkey in July.

He allegedly paid a RM1,000 fine for flouting the quarantine but many have pressed for sterner action against him, including several opposition lawmakers. – September 17, 2020.
