DR Mahathir Mohamad said he raised a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin in July because the people’s mandate had been stolen and their votes rendered meaningless.
“What is the use of general elections if the government that the people chose is brought down through cheating?
“This is the main reason I proposed the motion of no confidence against the prime minister. He seized the post by stealing the people’s mandate,” Dr Mahathir said in his motion filed to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker in July.
The Langkawi MP posted the full content of the motion on his blog today and social media accounts.
The former prime minister said he decided to reveal the motion as he believed it would never see the light of day in the Dewan Rakyat.
“I had brought a motion of no confidence against Muhyiddin, the Pagoh MP, as the prime minister in the Dewan Rakyat.
“But the government has decided not to allow by placing it at the end of other business. Government matters will take precedence until there is no time for my motion. In this manner, it will never be heard in the Dewan Rakyat.
“In view of this, I have posted it on my blog.”
Dr Mahathir twice filed a motion of no confidence against Muhyiddin, the first for the one-day session on May 18 and again for the July to August session.
In his request to the Dewan Rakyat speaker to allow his motion, he gave the reasons for the move, beginning with how Muhyiddin founded Bersatu with him to oppose Najib Razak’s government but then colluded with Umno to topple the Pakatan Harapan government and form a new Malay-Muslim government.
The nonagenarian leader reiterated his refusal to work with Najib and Umno, calling it “a betrayal of the people who voted for us”.
He said Muhyiddin refused to listen to him and took Bersatu out of PH to work with Umno and PAS.
“The manner in which Pagoh became prime minister is truly shameful. It has never happened in Malaysia till now. He himself admits that Perikatan Nasional is not the government people voted for,” Dr Mahathir said.
Muhyiddin’s appointment as prime minister had to be challenged because it was done without a general election, he added.
“This is a violation of the systems and rules under the federal constitution.
“This will cause people to lose confidence in voting because their voice has no value in Malaysia anymore.
“The party that the people rejected can now become the government through backdoor means. The people have been fooled.” – September 9, 2020.
