INVESTIGATIONS into Plantation and Commodities Minister Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali for breaching Covid-19 quarantine rules are almost complete, said Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Huzir Mohamed.

When contacted, Huzir said the investigation papers will be submitted to the prosecutor’s office for further action.

“The investigation is almost complete. We will soon submit the papers to the prosecution,” he said briefly.

The Kuala Nerus MP is under investigation for flouting mandatory quarantine after returning from Turkey on July 7.

On August 28, Khairuddin spent three hours in Bukit Aman over his Covid-19 quarantine breach.

At least 27 police reports were lodged nationwide over the PAS MP’s breach.

Khairuddin paid a RM1,000 compound on August 7 but the Health Ministry said its top officials, including the director-general and infectious disease control head, were not informed of his quarantine breach earlier and only knew of the matter when the media reported it.

He has also apologised and pledged to donate four months of his salary to the Covid-19 fund.

Pakatan Harapan lawmaker Teresa Kok exposed Khairuddin’s breach in the Dewan Rakyat on August 18.

PAS, meanwhile, has put the blame on the Health and Foreign Ministries and branded Khairuddin a hero.

Its spiritual leader, Hashim Jasin said Khairuddin’s trip to Turkey had brought benefits to the oil palm sector.

“He broke the rules but he brought good news, news that brought benefit. He is a hero, like the hoopoe bird that was going to be punished, when it was actually a hero,” he said, referring to verses about the bird in the Quran. – September 2, 2020.
