MUKHRIZ Mahathir has confirmed that his daughter and son-in-law were fined RM1,000 for breaching recovery movement-control order (RMCO) procedures.

The Pejuang president said he was disappointed with the couple, who had been picked up by police during a raid at the Kuala Lumpur pub they were in.

He said they deserved to be slapped with the RM1,000 fine.

“I already advised my family, during the RMCO, don’t violate (the law), because we have to show a good example.

“Of course I feel disappointed because they breached the law anyway despite the reminder. They deserved to be compounded,” he told reporters after a ceramah at Felda Besout .

Though Pejuang has not fielded a candidate in the Slim by-election, the party has endorsed Independent Amir Khusyairi Mohd Tanusi as its candidate.

Mukhriz, who is former Kedah menteri besar, said he was glad the authorities did not grant any discounts or favours to the couple.

“A fine of RM1,000 was given to them without any discount unlike the others. I am grateful that no discounts were now given because if there were any then there will be news revolving around me saying that I had interfered in the process.

“At the same time, we are also grateful that they were not given a higher compound as that would be persecution,” said Mukhriz

Yesterday, Kuala Lumpur police commissioner Mazlan Lazim said a VIP’s daughter was among 29 individuals nabbed for patronising a pub beyond business operation hours permitted during the RMCO – which is in force until Aug 31.

In the 1.20am raid, one local man believed to be the pub’s manager, one Bangladesh national and three Filipino women believed to be workers at the premises were also detained. – August 27, 2020.
