VIP’s daughter arrested for breaching movement curbs


A VIP’S daughter is among those arrested in a police raid on a pub in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, recently.

In a statement yesterday, city police chief Mazlan Lazim said the operation was conducted about 1.20am on Sunday.

“During the raid, a local man, believed to be the pub manager, a Bangladeshi national, as well as three Filipinas, believed to be workers, were detained.

“Investigations revealed that the pub was operating without a valid business licence.

“Also detained were 20 male and nine female patrons for being involved in pub activities beyond the operation hours allowed under the recovery movement-control order (RMCO).”

He said investigation papers have been opened under Section 55B of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for employing one or more persons other than citizens, or entry permit holders who do not have a valid pass; Rule 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for abuse of the said pass; Section 76 of the Excise Act 1976; and, Rule 11 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within Infected Local Areas) (No.7) Regulations 2020.

The four foreigners have been remanded for 14 days to facilitate investigations, and a RM1,000 compound issued to each of the 29 patrons, all locals.

“Kuala Lumpur police will not practise double standards, and will never compromise with anyone found to have breached the RMCO, including the daughter of the VIP,” said Mazlan. – Bernama, August 27, 2020.
