THE decision to join Perikatan Nasional under Muhyiddin Yassin’s leadership was not an easy one, said former PKR lawmaker Afif Bahardin.
Speaking at a congress of groups linked to former PKR leaders who dumped Pakatan Harapan in February, the Seberang Jaya assemblyman said the decision was made to save the nation from political instability.
“Azmin Ali’s decision to move forward by joining Muhyiddin and forging an alliance with Perikatan Nasional was only to save the country,” said the ex-deputy PKR youth chief.
The event, dubbed the National Congress, is held by Penggerak Komuniti Negara, Pemuda Negara, Nations of Women (NOW), and Penggerak Wanita Muda Negara ― all of them organisations linked to former PKR deputy president Azmin Ali and his faction.
Afif was a Penang executive councillor but resigned from his position after he was issued a show cause letter by PKR over allegations of sabotaging the party at its annual congress in December last year.
“We must take into account the sacrifices of many people, but we must also decide the future and survival of this nation-state,” he said.
“We have to think about many things but at the end of the day, we have to make a decision.”
He has joined Bersatu and founded Ketua Pemuda Negara, an organisation that purportedly promotes democracy and relations among young Malaysians of different races. – August 22, 2020.
