BERSATU’S move to join Muafakat Nasional will help strengthen Islam and Malays, said Takiyuddin Hassan.
The PAS secretary-general, in a statement today, said Bersatu can help MN realise its primary goal of championing Islamic affairs and matters concerning Bumiputeras.
“We are confident that with Umno, PAS and Bersatu together, we can strengthen the formation of Melayu Raya, and at the same time, create a stronger multiracial Malaysia.
“This cooperation is based on unity and understanding. PAS believes the cooperation under MN, led by Umno, PAS and Bersatu, is the best formation for Perikatan Nasional.”
PAS and Umno formed MN on September 14 last year with the aim of securing and uniting divided Malay support.
Yesterday, Prime Minister and Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, in a video message to members, said the party will join MN, confirming earlier speculation.
Also yesterday, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he had extended an invitation to Bersatu to join the alliance.
Umno, PAS and Bersatu are part of the ruling PN coalition, which is supported by Gabungan Parti Sarawak, MCA, MIC and several Sabah outfits.
Barisan Nasional secretary-general Annuar Musa has said MN is not Malay-centric, and is looking to recruit “other multiracial parties”.
MN believes in the value of being a multiracial pact, he said. – August 16, 2020.
