MUAFAKAT Nasional (MN) is not Malay-centric but is actually looking to recruit “other multiracial parties” into the fold, said Barisan Nasional secretary-general Annuar Musa today.

According to Annuar, MN believes in the value of being a multiracial coalition, which currently consists of Umno and PAS, with Bersatu set to join.

“Each party will have its own identity, its own autonomy. We are going to strengthen MN.

“After the three parties have united, we are going to bring in other multiracial parties because MN is not Malay centric,” the Federal Territories minister said after giving out licences to traders in Batu Muda, Kuala Lumpur.

Annuar said the invitation to multiracial parties will be spearheaded by Umno, PAS and Bersatu.

“The spirit and concept of MN is multiracial, as in how we previously developed the country.”

Yesterday, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said that his party Bersatu will join Umno and PAS in MN.

In a video message to the party faithful, the Bersatu president confirmed speculation the party will officially become a partner in the pact.

Annuar said that they were told by Muhyiddin during a meeting that the Bersatu supreme council had discussed this issue and had agreed to join MN.

“This issue was also brought to the MN steering committee chaired by Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan and PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, and was discussed that Bersatu has decided to join MN.

“They have agreed and a note, signed by Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, was sent three days ago to invite Bersatu officially to join MN.”

Yesterday, Zahid had said that he extended an invitation to Bersatu to join its ranks.

“We are now awaiting their reply and I am leaving this to the MN steering committee to study the response and decide on the roles of the three parties,” Zahid said.

Annuar said that now they have to evaluate the level of co-operation between all parties in MN.

“We, BN and PAS also have our memorandum of understanding. We have to look at all of this.

“Then we will inform (the direction). The main issue is to make the decision (Bersatu join MN) workable.

“The main issue is that the people need stability and economic recovery, that is what the party’s leadership should do. That’s what we are doing.”

Umno, PAS and Bersatu are all part of the ruling Perikatan Nasional pact, which is supported by Sarawak’s ruling pact GPS, MCA, MIC and several Sabah parties. – August 16, 2020.

  • This type of politicians in MN tell lies all the time. No one in his right mind will believe it is not a Malay centric party. Hadi has said Malays must dominate and control the government. So who are we to believe? Annuar Musa or Hadi? Both are proven, accomplished liars.

  • Which non-Malay party will join MN? MCA? MIC? What will happen to BN then? Might as well let Bersatu (and PAS) join BN. But they wont let that happen, would they?

  • Save all these idiotic talk. How to trust them after 63 years of in control, they still claim they are behind. This is suppression. Keep you Malay centric. As long as there is 20% Malay dissent. Malaysia will have hope.
