CYBERSECURITY incidents have increased by 109% amid the Covid-19 pandemic, said Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Zahidi Zainul Abidin today.

The spike was recorded from March 18 to July 31.

“About 3,075 cybersecurity incident reports were received by the Cyber999 Help Centre, up from the 1,471 registered in the same period last year,” he told reporters after launching the Digital Community Joint Roadshow with Rela and the Civil Defence Force in Padang Besar.

He said the offences include fraud, harassment and viruses.

He urged parents to remind their children to always be careful when using social media sites.

“Parents should monitor what their children share online to ensure sensitive or inappropriate things are not posted.” – Bernama, August 15, 2020.
