RM400 million lost to cybercrime in first 10 months of 2019

MORE than RM400 million was lost in cybercrime cases in the first 10 months of the year, said police Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department director Rosli Ab Rahman.

He said 9,686 cases were reported from January to October, compared with 9,442 in the same period last year.

Most of the cases reported this year were in Selangor at 1,897, followed by Johor (1,374), Kuala Lumpur (1,264) and Negri Sembilan (784), he told reporters after an event at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin in Kuala Nerus today.

Rosli said despite numerous warnings and awareness programmes, many Malaysians still fall for scams.

He said between 20 and 30 Macau scam cases are reported nationwide daily. – Bernama, November 2, 2019.
