HOT Burger Malaysia founder Asri Abdul Hamid, who recently claimed that cops in Sg Buloh are protecting illegal gambling dens, was invited for a meeting with Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador.
Hamid posted a picture of the meeting with Asri at his office in Bukit Aman, while thanking the entrepreneur for making time to meet him.
“Thank you Asri, Hot Burger Malaysia founder, for coming to my office,” said Hamid in a short Facebook post.
Hamid, however, did not disclose what was discussed during their meeting.
Asri had gained social media sympathy after his complaint was met with police reports against him by the Sg Buloh police.
Sg Buloh police chief Shafa’aton Abu Bakar had since denied inaction over illegal gambling activities in the district.
The police chief called the allegations by the Facebook user untrue and baseless.
“Two police reports have been lodged by the Sg Buloh police station chief and an officer from the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA).
“His allegations could tarnish the image of the police force, especially that of the Selangor police, in our efforts to curb illegal gambling in the state, especially in Sg Buloh,” she told a press conference on Sunday.
Many complained that police should be investigating his complaints rather than the messenger.
According to several news reports, Asri also met with the Home Minister Hamzah Zainuddin at Parliament.
Earlier today, Bukit Aman’s Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) director, Zamri Yahya, told Malaysiakini that an investigation has been launched.
“An investigation is being carried out. Action will be taken against officers found protecting the gambling premises.
“We are still trying to verify certain information from the complainant. We want to know specific details such as to whom he complained to at IPD Sg Buloh and Bukit Aman JIPS, as alleged.
Last Saturday, Asri shared a video recording of illegal gambling dens in Sg Buloh, which he claimed were being protected by the police and no action has been taken against the operators. – August 10, 2020.
