Bukit Aman investigates ‘protection’ racket

BUKIT Aman is looking into the possible involvement of police officers from Sg Buloh protecting illegal gambling premises in the area.

Its Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) director, Zamri Yahya, told Malaysiakini that an investigation has been launched.

“An investigation is being carried out. Action will be taken against officers found protecting the gambling premises.

“We are still trying to verify certain information from the complainant. We want to know specific details such as to whom he complained to at IPD Sg Buloh and Bukit Aman JIPS, as alleged.

“This information is crucial for our investigation,” he added as quoted by the news portal.

Last Saturday, a burger stall owner shared a video recording of illegal gambling dens in Sg Buloh which he claimed were being protected by the police and no action has been taken against the operators.

Sg Buloh police chief Shafa’aton Abu Bakar has since denied inaction over illegal gambling activities in the district.

The police chief called the allegations by the Facebook user untrue and baseless.

“Two police reports have been lodged by the Sg Buloh police station chief and an officer from the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA).

“His allegations could tarnish the image of the police force, especially that of the Selangor police, in our efforts to curb illegal gambling in the state especially in Sg Buloh,” she told a press conference on Sunday.

In a statement this morning, MACC deputy commissioner (operation) Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya, said the anti-graft body has been in touch with the Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) in Bukit Aman regarding the issue. – August 10, 2020.

  • I strongly support & agrees with the comment made by the author of the video clip - the Selangor police chief has to go as either he is sleeping at his desk or are in arms with those den's bosses. The fact that he was approached by the gangs clearly shows there's a leak from inside both MBSA & the police. No money no talk is the norm set by biggest thief ring leader in Malaysia if not in the world, CASH IS KING which was well received by the authorities under him
