THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is monitoring enforcement officers in Sg Buloh who are suspected of soliciting and accepting bribes to protect illegal gambling syndicates.
Its deputy commissioner (operation), Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya, said the anti-graft body has been in touch with the Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) in Bukit Aman regarding the issue.
“We view this matter with serious concern since a video that has gone viral claiming the cops did not act on illegal gambling premises in Sg Buloh and allegedly the cops themselves received dirty money.
“I have contacted my counterpart, the director of JIPS, Zamri Yahya, and he informed me that his department will take action against officers caught protecting the illegal premises. JIPS will also share information with the MACC and the anti-graft body will be monitoring the situation in Sg Buloh,: he said in a statement today.
Sg Buloh police chief Shafa’aton Abu Bakar has since denied the allegation of inaction over illegal gambling activities in the district.
This was in response to viral videos by “Hot Burger Malaysia”, which was shared by Facebook user Asri Janggut on Saturday.
The police chief described the allegations made by the Facebook user as untrue and baseless.
“Two police reports have been lodged by the Sg Buloh police station chief and an officer from the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA).
“His allegations could tarnish the image of the police force, especially that of the Selangor police, in our efforts to curb illegal gambling in the state especially in Sungai Buloh,” she told a press conference on Sunday. – August 10, 2020.
