FORMER Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng was arrested tonight and would be charged tomorrow in Kuala Lumpur with corruption in connection with the Penang undersea tunnel project, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said today.

The Bagan MP and former finance minister, faced similar charges in Penang on Monday in relation to the RM6.3 billion project, MACC said in a statement.

More charges of graft – over a separate matter – await him on Tuesday in the Penang Sessions Court, the statement read.

Lim will be charged at the Corruption Court in Jalan Duta tomorrow under Section 16(a)(A) of the 2009 MACC Act for “corruptly soliciting, receiving or giving any gratification as an inducement”.

On Monday morning, he will be charged in Penang under Section 23 of the MACC Act for abusing his power for gratification.

MACC said Lim faced charges under the same section on Tuesday but did not reveal to which case the accusations were linked.

MACC said it was given the go-ahead by the attorney-general to pursue charges against Lim, a senior member of the former Pakatan Harapan administration.

Lim was arrested late today at MACC headquarters where he had presented himself for questioning.

He arrived at 9.10pm. MACC sources said he was arrested at 9.30pm.

He will remain in custody overnight and brought to court tomorrow.

Lim was previously questioned thrice by the MACC over the Penang undersea tunnel project. – August 6, 2020.

  • Appeased when NTR, RM, Aziz Rahim, Isa Samad and heavyweight corruptors are imprisoned. If LGE is proven guilty am not going to vote for DAP. NTR said he raised the economy, stock market and helped the poor. Isn't that's your job Najib ? When you rob and proven guilty you go to jail. No matter who. Hard working or not including LGE
