DR Noor Hisham Abdullah has lamented the disregard for self-regulation among Najib Razak supporters who gathered in large numbers outside the Kuala Lumpur court complex today.

“The Health Ministry has made it clear on a daily basis, reminding Malaysians to adhere to SOPs (standard operating procedures) by maintaining a social distance of 1m, to wear a face mask and to regularly wash hands.

“It is saddening to see such a situation where there is no self-regulation,” the director-general of health tweeted.

He was responding to a tweet by Bernama, in which the state news agency had attached the link to one of articles on the situation.

The ministry over the last week has been warning of the possibility of Covid-19 figures going up again following a recent spike in cases brought about by new clusters.

On Sunday Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob warned about the possibility of the movement-control order being reintroduced if the figures go up to three digits.

“Case numbers have been increasing. The Health Ministry said this is due to negligence. We hope it is still not too late to keep case numbers low,” he said.

Earlier today in the Dewan Rakyat lawmakers raised concerns on the risk of Covid-19 infection and the emergence of a new cluster due to the large gathering at court.

Expressing his fear on the situation while debating the motion of thanks for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s royal address, Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh (Ledang-PH) said Covid-19 cases were still rampant and that a new cluster might emerge.

“...especially today when we hear about a gathering at the court, we are worried there might be an occurrence of a new cluster due to the gathering which was not prevented and controlled.

“Preventive measures must be practised more diligently to truly end the outbreak. We are not defeated, but we have yet to win,” he said.

Mohd Nizar Zakaria (Parit-BN) in his debate advised Malaysians to continue adhering to the rules and instructions from the government.

He also expressed his appreciation to the frontliners to curb the disease.

Prior to the session, Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun reminded MPs to adhere to the rules inside and outside of Parliament. – July 28, 2020.
