IF the number of daily Covid-19 cases hits triple figures, the movement control order (MCO) may be reimposed, warned Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“Case numbers have been increasing. The Health Ministry said this is due to negligence. We hope it is still not too late to keep case numbers low,” he said in Kota Baru today.

Covid-19 cases have in recent days gone up to double digits and more clusters have emerged.

The Health Ministry yesterday classified Kuching a red zone after 41 Covid-19 cases were detected as at noon.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Sentosa Hospital in Kuching has been closed to the public and all its employees have been placed under quarantine.

“There are four new cases in the Sentosa cluster. A total of 677 individuals have been screened and tested, 657 are still waiting for their results and Kuching, Sarawak, has become a red zone,” he posted on Facebook yesterday.

He said contact tracing is underway.

Malaysia recorded 23 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, compared with 21 the day before.

This takes the number of active cases to 167, among 8,884 cases in total.

Deputy Sarawak Chief Minister Douglas Uggah, who chairs the state Disaster Management Committee, had earlier said an emergency meeting will be held tomorrow.

He said the spike in cases in Kuching over the past few days was worrying and warrants the implementation of containment measures.

Among measures being deliberated is a travel ban, Uggah had said. – July 26, 2020.
