BAGAN MP Lim Guan Eng is expected to be questioned again by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Putrajaya today over the controversial RM6.3 billion Penang undersea tunnel project.

The former finance minister is, however, late for his appointment with anti-graft officers after his car broke down on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) near Simpang Pulai in Perak this morning.

Lim was supposed to arrive at 10am but uploaded a post on Facebook showing him and his lawyer, R.S.N. Rayer, being assisted by PLUS personnel.

On Wednesday, Lim had been grilled for six hours by MACC officers.

His questioning comes after the MACC earlier this month recorded a statement from Chow Kon Yeow, who succeeded Lim as Penang chief minister.

Allegations of corruption concerning the project were first raised by Malaysia Today blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin, a former PKR member.

He had alleged in February and March last year that then Penang chief minister Lim and state excos participated in “criminal collaboration” and received kickbacks in relation to the project.

The excos already questioned by the MACC are Jagdeep Singh Deo, who holds the local government portfolio, Chong Eng (women and family development), Phee Boon Poh (community and welfare) and Lim Hock Seng (works, utilities and transport).

Former exco Abdul Malik Abul Kassim, who was in charge of Islamic affairs, also had his statement recorded. – July 25, 2020.
