Sarawak for all Sarawakians

TODAY marks the 57th anniversary of Sarawak’s independence from colonial Britain, prior to the state joining the Federation of Malaysia in 1963.

To all Sarawakians, I would like to wish you a happy 57th independence anniversary. As a Malayan, I fully support the “Sarawak for Sarawakians” movement.

I believe that we must revisit the issue of Sarawak rights, which are enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963, but sadly, have been eroded by state politicians themselves, working with greedy Malayan politicians.

“Sarawak for Sarawakians” means all Sarawakians – not just Malay-Melanau, Iban, Bidayuh and Chinese fat cats in urban areas, but also minorities who live deep in the interior, such as the Kenyah, Kelabit Orang Ulu and Penan.

Yes, Sarawak and all its wealth is definitely for all Sarawakians, not just naturalised, “instant” Melanaus from Lebanon, or privileged, connected souls living in Canada or other countries, or unscrupulous, exploitative Malayan politicians with a hidden “ketuanan” agenda.

More importantly, it’s certainly not for devious state politicians who have been sucking Sarawak dry for generations.

As someone who, for eight years, served this proud Bumi Kenyalang, patrolled almost every nook and cranny of its jungles, sailed its rivers and rapids, drank its water, breathed its air, and enjoyed camaraderie and brotherhood with its people, with love and respect, I wish you Happy Sarawak Day and God Bless. – July 22, 2020.

    • Read the sentence again, and the races mentioned preceding the word fat cats. It is not directed to the Chinese alone.
