NIGHTCLUBS and entertainment centres that are operating during this recovery movement control order (RMCO) period run the risk of losing their licences, warned Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The senior minister reminded these establishments that their outlets are still not allowed to operate.
He said police detained 80 individuals yesterday for violating the RMCO, with 37 held over activities at pubs and nightclubs.
“Nightclubs and entertainment centres are still on the negative list.
“In this regard, the government, through the Local Government and Housing Ministry, has been instructed to increase monitoring and enforcement of nightclubs and entertainment centres operating during the RMCO.
“This includes action suspending their business licences,” he told a press conference today.
Last Sunday, police arrested 383 individuals for offences under the RMCO, including 328 at pubs and nightclubs.
Ismail Sabri said the Compliance Operation Task Force would also enhance its inspections and take action against business owners who do not comply with the RMCO’s SOPs.
“We also get reports of restaurants making a lot of mistakes and violating RMCO instructions,” he said.
Social distancing in restaurants has been an issue raised by the police and task force.
“So, restaurant operators, if you do not want (us) to take action, please comply with the SOPs introduced by the government.”
Ismail Sabri also said the police would no longer be lenient by only advising or issuing warnings, but will take stern action against those who violate the RMCO’s SOPs.
Of the 80 individuals arrested yesterday, 20 were remanded, four released on police bail, and 56 were issued compounds. – July 21, 2020.
