328 arrested at pubs, nightclubs

POLICE yesterday arrested 383 individuals for offenses under the recovery movement control order (RMCO), including 328 at pubs and nightclubs, said senior minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said 55 were arrested for activities that violated the standard operating procedures (SOP).

Of the total people arrested, 32 had been remanded while the rest had been fined, he said.

“Among the RMCO offenses include activities at pubs or nightclubs (328) and activities involving too many people making it impossible to adhere to social distancing and SOP (55),” he said in a statement today.

He added police had mounted 65 roadblocks nationwide and checked 36,001 vehicles.

Fourteen foreigners were detained for immigration offences, he said.

Ismail said one individual from 1,062 nationals who returned to Malaysia yesterday was brought to the hospital and later tested positive for Covid-19.

“From the total that arrived at KLIA and KLIA2, 1,061 individuals were ordered to carry out mandatory quarantine at their homes, while one individual was sent to the hospital.”

He said from June 10 to July 19, the Health Ministry screened 22,076 individuals at KLIA, and 78 of them were found to be positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, the Construction Industry Development Board inspected six construction sites in Terengganu and Kelantan yesterday and found that all complied with the SOP.

Total compliant construction sites are 3,225 while 541 had been warned for violating SOP.

So far, 19 sites have been ordered to close, as they were non-compliant.

On essential food items, Ismail said there are sufficient supplies.

“This is based on monitoring done on 12 types of items at 684 business premises, including retailers (514), wholesalers (145) and producers (25).”

He added enforcement officers from the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry had conducted 1,560 RMCO compliance inspection and found that 1,548 premises were compliant while nine were given advice and three were warned. – July 20, 2020.
