BERSATU has sacked Sri Gading MP Shahruddin Salleh after he informed Dewan Rakyat that he will no longer sit with the government bloc.

Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainuddin said on July 10, the Sri Gading MP had issued a notice to the speaker of his decision not to sit with the government bloc led by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also Bersatu president and acting chairman.

“As such, it is informed that Shahruddin’s membership has been stripped immediately according to Clause 10.2.2 and 10.2.3 of the Bersatu constitution.

“Bersatu thanks him for all his contributions during his time with the party,” said Hamzah Zainuddin in a statement today.

Hamzah also warned party members who support former leaders led by Dr Mahathir Mohamad to not participate in campaigns meant to damage Bersatu.

“The party will not hesitate to take action against any members who violate the party constitution,” he said.

Shahruddin, who was the deputy works minister, resigned from Muhyiddin’s cabinet on June 4.

Shahruddin’s removal was reminiscent of how the party removed Dr Mahathir and four others after they sat with the opposition bloc during the king’s royal address in Dewan Rakyat last May.

The others who were sacked were deputy president and Jerlun MP Mukhriz Mahathir, Kubang Pasu MP Amiruddin Hamzah, Muar MP Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman and Simpang Renggam MP Maszlee Malik. – July 19, 2020.
