Positive response to Dr Mahathir-Dr Wan Azizah pairing

A MAJORITY of social media users reacted positively to news that Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail would be interim prime minister and deputy prime minister respectively should the opposition win the 14th general election.

The Malaysian Insight today held a poll to ask Facebook and Twitter users whether they agree to Dr Mahathir being the interim prime minister and Wan Azizah being the interim deputy prime minister should Pakatan Harapan win.

The results tabulated at 6pm showed 600 (55.8%) voted yes and while 475 (44.2%) said no. Facebook had 493 users voting for yes and 360 users voting for no while Twitter had 107 voting for yes and 115 voting for no.

Most Facebook users like Lee Chee Wat and Herbert Tang agreed that the duo should run the country before PH advisor Anwar Ibrahim is released from jail next year.

“I agree for Dr Mahathir as PM and Dr Wan Azizah as deputy prime minister but this is interim only,” Lee commented.

“Anwar will be seventh prime minister,” Tang commented

However, those who disagreed had more to say.

“So stupid la PH… 22 years under the Mahathir regime, but now want to put him back in power,” user Abu Ammar Alattas commented.

“Since they are interim, the eventual prime minister needs to be named.

“There should be an alternative if Anwar cannot get a royal pardon,” user Shahrul Idzwan Shaari commented.

Anwar is due to be release in the middle of next year, with or without a royal pardon.

Some even took a step further and called for a “fresh face”, recommending PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli and Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali as replacements instead.

“I think more dynamic leadership is needed. Dr Mahathir is best as a senior minister while Dr Wan Azizah should make way for Azmin,” Jeffrey JShing Ng commented.

“Rafizi for deputy prime minister,” Andyktchong Ktchong commented.

Yesterday, Pakatan Harapan (PH) parties except for PKR had agreed to name the duo as interim prime minister and deputy prime minister during a two-day PH retreat at Perdana Leadership Foundation in Putrajaya on December 1 and 2.

“Bersatu, Amanah and DAP have agreed, only PKR hasn’t reached a consensus,” a source, who attended the retreat, told The Malaysian Insight.

The Malaysian Insight also learnt that Dr Wan Azizah had also agreed to the proposal in principle, but is facing opposition from a faction within her party.

“We have to defer the decision because PKR wants to discuss it in their political bureau (meeting),” the source added. – December 4, 2017.

He already done that to DAP and Amanah ..... Remember the PKR 5, the discord in seats allocation for the Sarawak state elections and the snubbing of the launch of Amanah Sarawak ...... all the work of Azmin ..... NO, NO, NO to Azmin and his cronies ....

  • I am not saying it’s a bad combo , I just think it is a unexciting combo. There is nothing to look forward to with this combo. It feels like a “been there, done that, bought the t-shirt “ combo . This is a winning combo if the people are feeling that the times are great and want things to stay the same. This is not a winning combo if people feel like the times are bad and are eager for change . With this combo , I think the biggest problem that the opposition is going to face is voters apathy. In the next election, Between going out to vote or going out for lunch , I think many people will just choose to go out for lunch ..
