PUTRAJAYA’S decision to allow barbershops, and hair and beauty salons to reopen next week is safe, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, as no spike in Covid-19 cases is expected.
The director-general of health said the standard operating procedures for the sector have been prepared, and monitoring will be conducted to ensure compliance when the businesses open their doors on Wednesday.
“We did not see a spike in cases after Hari Raya. So, if we can control the situation after Raya, it’s time to reopen other economic sectors, like hairdressers and so on.
“The SOPs have been prepared for some time, and now, we need to monitor their implementation and make sure there’s compliance.
“So, on June 10, we will allow the hairdressing sector to reopen, but the ministry will monitor for any increase in cases,” he told a daily press briefing on the coronavirus in Putrajaya today.
Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob earlier announced that barbers, hairstylists and beauty salons can resume operations on Wednesday under strict conditions.
The SOPs include social distancing, the use of masks, gloves and hand sanitiser, temperature checks, and face shields for children. Services should also be provided on an appointment basis. – June 6, 2020.
