BARBERS and hair and beauty salons may resume business starting June 10 with conditions, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“The government has decided to allow barbers and hair and beauty salons to open but they have to follow strict standard operating procedures.

“Social distancing, usage of masks, gloves and hand sanitiser, temperature checks and face shields for children are among the conditions. There are many more guidelines that they must follow,” said Ismail said today in a daily press conference.

“For elderly people aged 60 and above, they are advised to make an appointment for a haircut or treatment.”

“The same goes for children below 12, parents have to call for an appointment,” he added.

House calls are not only allowed but encouraged.

“We allow house calls because it is safer. There are less people in one place and there is less human contact.”

Last month, Ismail said hairstylists were not allowed to make house calls while the conditional movement control order was in effect.

Also in April, Malaysian Indian Hair Dressing Saloon Owners Association chairman Magendran Vellasamy said barbershops and salons should be allowed to open so that they could serve their clients on their premises where they would have introduced health and safety measures.

He said there were no such measures in place for house calls, which increased the risk of infection. – June 6, 2020.
