RASAH MP Teo Kok Seong today demanded that the federal government explain the lack of funding for Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) in Budget 2018.

The DAP parliamentarian said Putrajaya had set aside funds for TAR UC over the past three years.

The institution, set up by MCA, received RM60 million in 2015, RM51 million last year and RM30 million this year, said Teo.

“As a Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TARC) alumnus, I’m very disappointed that the government has failed to provide an allocation for TAR UC next year,” he told reporters at the Parliament media room.

He said MCA must explain the abrupt cut in funding for the institution, which has more than 27,000 students.

He said ministers and parliamentarians in the party did not know about the cut until he raised the issue during the Higher Education Ministry committee debate yesterday.

MCA founded TARC in 1969. It was upgraded to university college status in 2013.

Party president Liow Tiong Lai is the board chairman of TAR UC. – November 29, 2017.
