AUTHORITIES have carried out Covid-19 screenings on 2,000 residents from two housing areas in Kuala Langat and have quarantined 114 individuals.
Kuala Langat district police chief Azizan Tukiman said there are 7,000 more people who have yet to be tested.
It may take the Health Department until June 6 to complete the screening, he said.
“There are about 9,000 people in these two housing areas and so far 2,000 have been screened.
“114 people have been quarantined so far,” said Azizan.
Senior minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob is expected to make an announcement at his daily briefing today about a semi-enhanced movement-control order (EMCO) on the area.
Taman Langat Utama and Taman Langat Murni in Bukit Changgang are reportedly under lockdown after more than 20 foreigners there tested positive for Covid-19.
Fencing and barricades were erected around the two areas late yesterday and an official announcement by Ismail Sabri is expected today.
The EMCO was previously imposed on Jalan Masjid India, Selangor Mansion, Malayan Mansion and Menara City One in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya Old Town and Hulu Langat (Selangor), and Simpang Renggam (Johor).
A nationwide MCO was imposed on March 18, and was replaced on May 4 by more relaxed conditions under the conditional MCO, which is due to expire on June 9.
Authorities, however, have said that even after restrictions are lifted, they will continue to impose partial controls or lockdowns on specific areas where Covid-19 is detected. – June 3, 2020.
