THE Johor legislative assembly will be dissolved if politicians continue to fight for positions, said Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.

In a Facebook post today, the Johor ruler said: “I will dissolve the Johore legislative assembly immediately if elected lawmakers continue to tussle for power”.

“I will give Johor voters the chance to elect new leaders and I hope they will pick representatives that work for the people and the state, and not for themselves or their parties.”

He said he is disappointed with the political tussles that are happening in the state.

“They don’t seem to care about the people when everyone is suffering (from the Covid-19 pandemic).

“I cannot bear to see my subjects suffer and my state in chaos as I have sworn to defend the state at all times,” said Sultan Ibrahim.

It was reported yesterday that a source from the Perikatan Nasional government in Johor had said that the state would fall again if Bersatu assemblymen withdraw their support for the coalition.

The source attributed the fallout to Bersatu and Umno as the two could not agree over several issues in the state.

Among the key issues were Bersatu losing the menteri besar position to Umno following the fall of the state in February.

Perikatan has 29 seats in the 56-member state assembly with Umno holding 14 followed by Bersatu (11), MIC (two), PAS (one) and one independent.

On the opposition side, DAP has 14, Amanah (9) and PKR (four), giving them a total of 27 seats.

A swing by Bersatu would topple the state assembly again. – June 3, 2020.
