ANOTHER recording of the Bersatu supreme council meeting on February 23 has been leaked – the latest is the discussions to quit the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition.

In this latest leak, a voice similar to former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is heard imploring that he did not want to be forced about the transition plan.

A written preface to the audio, said that Dr Mahathir was making his stand after rejecting calls by several supreme council members to co-operate with Umno, saying he did not wish to work with those who are corrupt.

“Please don’t force me… to do something that is against my principles. I will fulfil what I promised, I promised to resign, I will resign.

“I promised to resign, and I am not allowed to resign, this will be entirely my fault because that decision is on me.”

This is the second audio clip on the meeting to have been leaked.

It was released on Bersatu TV Facebook page.

Yesterday, a voice resembling Prime Minister and party president Muhyiddin Yassin was heard saying it was best to leave the decision on whether to leave PH to Dr Mahathir.

The recording was circulating on social media and in chat groups.

It was also posted as a video that includes notes and subtitles on the Facebook page of Bersatu TV.

The leak appears to lend credence to Dr Mahathir’s assertion that Bersatu had gone against his decision not to quit PH.

In the latest audio, the voice similar to Dr Mahathir is heard repeatedly saying that nobody could tell him not to quit.

“When I have made my decision, that I will resign, I will resign. After that, what I’ve said to you before, will happen.

“You will need to choose new (leaders), the leaders have to get the majority (support) and so on, and if I wish to return (to politics), I will return. That is today’s story.

“Sorry, I am so emotional about it but I realise I don’t have much time. This is my opinion.”

Dr Mahathir had resigned as Bersatu chairman and prime minister on February 23, a day after he was given the mandate by Muhyiddin at a supreme council meeting to decide on whether Bersatu should leave PH.

After the February 23 meeting, Muhyiddin and other Bersatu MPs, minus Dr Mahathir and his son, party deputy president Mukhriz, gathered at the Sheraton Hotel in Petaling Jaya the same night, where they met with MPs from Barisan Nasional, PAS and PKR leaders who had switched camps.

The move subsequently brought about the fall of the PH government.

On Monday, Dr Mahathir had said he quit because his party defied his instruction not to leave PH.

Speculation is rife that Dr Mahathir and Mukhriz will be sacked ahead of party elections to be held in the coming months. Dr Mahathir is standing for chairman again and is the only candidate.

Yesterday, several Bersatu members have written letters to the party’s disciplinary board calling for action to be taken against Muhyiddin for taking the party out of PH.

An additional complaint against Muhyiddin was his unilateral decision to put himself up as candidate for prime minister, despite the supreme council’s decision on February 24 that supported Dr Mahathir as prime minister. – May 14, 2020.
