Perikatan practising cronyism with GLC appointments, says Anwar

THE “new normal” for politics must exclude cronyism, said PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.

“We cannot continue with the previous system after Covid-19, where politics is all but a fight for positions,” he said in a Facebook live on the second anniversary of the 14th general election that saw Pakatan Harapan (PH) defeat Barisan Nasional.

“I fear we will slip back to the old ways, where it is just a fight for positions in GLCs (government-linked companies), instead of working in the interest of the people.

“My goal is to ensure the old ways are not repeated and that our economic policy does not only enrich the wealthy,” said Anwar.

With the economic fallout from Covid-19, Anwar said the the old ways are unsustainable.

“The economy is already bad now. 

“How can we justify giving out RM60 to RM80 food baskets to those who need it and pay chief executive officers and directors of GLCs RM50,000 to RM80,000 a month?

“This will not help the general public,” said the 72-year-old Port Dickson MP.

Following the collapse of the PH government in late February, the Muhyiddin Yassin-led government has been busy replacing all the GLC directors and heads by appointing MPs who support him.

The latest today in a string of GLC appointments are Jalaluddin Alias (Jelebu), Hasbullah Osman (Gerik) and Ramli Mohd Nor (Cameron Highlands).

Muhyiddin is bidding to shore up his support during the Covid-19 lockdown, ahead of a one-day Parliament sitting on May 18.

  • These people appointed should be just paid a token salary of MYR5,000.00 only.
    Everything else should be based on performance.
    They are all wealthy in their own right after holding government positions for so long.
    A regression back to corruption.
