NURULHIDAYAH Ahmad Zahid, the daughter of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and her husband will be charged on Tuesday with violating the movement control order (MCO), Bukit Aman CID chief Huzir Mohamed said today.

According to Huzir, the couple will be charged at Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court.

“They will be charged on Tuesday. We have received an order from the Attorney General’s Chambers,” Huzir said.

Police will charge Nurulhidayah and Saiful Nizam Mohd Yusoff with violating Regulation 3(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.

If convicted, the couple will each face a fine of up to RM1,000 or six months in prison.

The couple are accused of breaching the MCO when they met Deputy Environment and Water Minister Ahmad Masrizal Muhammad at his ministry after meeting Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri a few hours earlier.

Nurulhidayah uploaded pictures of herself and her husband visiting the ministers to her Instagram account.

Police acted after a social media backlash and complaints from the public, taking statements from the couple on April 24. – May 3, 2020.
