THE Cabinet and the National Security Council will study allowing child care centres and mosques to operate under the fourth phase of the movement control order before making a decision, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today.

The defence minister said the relevant ministries will discuss the matter tomorrow morning.

“The cabinet will discuss and then the matter will be brought to the NSC’s attention before an SOP can be prepared.

“Tomorrow there will be a meeting with relevant ministries and I hope I can present the findings on Friday,” Ismail said when asked if the government will allow child care centres and mosques to open up during the fourth phase of the restriction order.

Yesterday, International Trade and Industry Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali said several economic sectors that were allowed to run at a limited capacity during the first three phases of the MCO will be permitted to work at full capacity.

However, it is still mandatory for the companies to adhere to procedures, including physical distancing of workers and hygiene measures.

The government has also allowed two people from a family to go out and buy essential items and services.

Previously, only the head of the household was allowed.

The MCO, which was enforced on March 18, has been extended until May 12. – April 29, 2020.

  • Child care centres if properly run, with a strict protocol in place governing them, should be okay. But opening up mosques is a tricky thing. The last thing we need is a new batch of cases from the pious and faithful.
