FUZIAH Salleh will be charged at the Johor Baru Sessions Court tomorrow for allegedly spreading fake news, the police said.

In a statement, they said the former deputy minister in the prime minister’s department will be charged at 8.30am over a video clip that was allegedly posted on her Facebook page after the movement control order (MCO) came into force.

The Kuantan MP’s post showed chaotic scenes of Malaysians purportedly returning home after the MCO was imposed at the Sultan Iskandar Building (CIQ Complex) in Johor Baru.

Police have recorded Fuziah’s statement over the matter.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Huzir Mohamed said the post and video clip was uploaded on Facebook by an account under the name Fuziah Salleh.

He said the Johor Immigration Department has denied the claim made in the post and had lodged a report over it.

“The gadget used to upload the post has been seized, and investigations are ongoing,” he said in a statement today.

He said the case is being investigated under Sections 500 and 505(b) of the Penal Code for slander and causing public fear, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for the improper use of network facilities or services.

Fuziah had said she cooperated with police when having her statement recorded.

“The authorities are investigating further, and I informed the police of my commitment to cooperate. At the same time, I urge the media not to blow this issue out of proportion until the investigations are over,” she had said in a statement. – April 28, 2020.

  • I just got one question if the Johor Immigration Department can produced for all to see since it denied the claimed made. I am sure there are CCTV installed at the said site of incident hence can the CCTV footage be produced on the time and date shown by Fuziah.
