POLICE on Friday recorded the statement of Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh over a social media post claiming that there was chaos at the Sultan Iskandar Building in Johor Baru involving Malaysians returning from Singapore.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Huzir Mohamed said the post, which came with a video clip, was uploaded by the “Fuziah Salleh” Facebook account.

He said the Johor Immigration Department has denied the claim made in the post and lodged a report over it.

“The gadget used to upload the post has been seized, and investigations are ongoing,” he said in a statement today.

He said the case is being investigated under Sections 500 and 505(b) of the Penal Code for slander and causing public fear, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for the improper use of network facilities or services.

Fuziah yesterday said she cooperated with police when having her statement recorded.

“The authorities are investigating further, and I informed police of my commitment to cooperate. At the same time, I urge the media not to blow this issue out of proportion until the investigations are over,” she said in a statement.

On another case, Huzir said a 48-year-old woman was arrested yesterday for allegedly uploading posts deemed seditious on the “Wendy Shoo Wai Ching” Facebook account.

He said the case is being probed under Section 4(1)(a) of the Sedition Act and Section 504 of the Penal Code.

“Investigations are ongoing, and the findings will be referred to the attorney-general’s office for further action.” – Bernama, April 12, 2020.
