FOREIGN Minister Hishammuddin Hussein today met PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, who was recently appointed the prime minister’s special envoy to the Middle East, to discuss developments in the Arab world.

Hishammuddin said the meeting touched on, among other things, the region’s geopolitical challenges and Covid-19 outbreak.

“For Wisma Putra, the focus now is on facilitating the return of Malaysians who are stranded overseas due to travel restrictions and the closure of airspace by the governments of the countries they are in,” he said in a statement.

He described Hadi’s April 2 appointment as timely, adding that the latter’s experience and influence are an important asset to the ministry to forge and maintain ties with the Middle East.
