BATU lawmaker P. Prabakaran was detained by police this afternoon when he went to assess the situation at the Sri Murni apartment in Selayang that was earlier today placed under the enhanced movement-control order (EMCO), said his political secretary.

Muhamed Reza Abdul Ralib told The Malaysian Insight that the MP wanted to get information on residents’ situation.

“He did not go into the apartment, but identified himself at the operations centre.

“He told those at the centre to expedite aid to the residents, but he was chased out of the area.”

Deputy Federal Territories Minister Edmund Santhara Kumar was present during the incident, said Reza.

“He (Prabakaran) then went out of the premises to do Facebook Live, and was approached by police. They escorted him to the Sentul district police headquarters.”

Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob earlier announced that northern Kuala Lumpur, including the area around the Selayang wholesale market in the Batu constituency, is under the EMCO from today till May 3.

He said eight parcels of land in the area will be under total lockdown to enable Covid-19 tracing and testing.

Director-General of Health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 28 coronavirus cases and one fatality have been registered in the area, and that a total of 2,064 samples have been taken from residents.

Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa, meanwhile, said some 15,000 people living around the wholesale market will be screened for the disease following the detection of cases there. – April 20, 2020.

  • Have been expecting this. Now how about the cases involving the Deputy Minister of Health, PAS Exco, Chief Minister of Terengganu, Former Chief Minister of Terengganu, and all other persons who accompanied them?

  • You can abuse the power and prevent opposition MPs from checking on people while the Ministers and Deputy Ministers continue to be careless. However, at the end of the day, the incompetence of the current cabinet is going to get this government booted out. Ministry of Education is in a fix because schools do not know what to do. Ministry of Health will struggle with many millions of foreign workers untested. Ministry of Trand and Industry is also silent and appears to be clueless. Ultimately, the rejection of meritocracy for politics of race and religion will bring the country to its knees.
